This new venture is a personal commitment to creating art that resonates with authenticity and purpose. It's an exploration of finding meaning through honest expression, particularly through the demanding yet revelatory lens of macro photography.

This journey began from a need to create work with real meaning. Macro photography, known for its demanding precision and ability to reveal hidden details, compels me to approach every image with care and deliberate intention.

Recording every step of my editing process keeps me grounded. It’s a way to stay accountable, question my choices, and remain open to growth. Pieces like the ‘European Hornet’ reflect this ongoing balance between honesty and artistic intention.

Scientists widely agree that insect species are declining, largely due to habitat loss, use of pesticides and climate change.

This marks the beginning of a five-piece series celebrating the often-overlooked beauty of insects. I invite you to return as the work continues, each image a quiet, honest record of what remains.

Pure Editing sets a new standard: no shortcuts, no illusions, just skill.

These are the core techniques I use throughout my macro photography workflow. They are fundamental to how I capture, meticulously retouch and edit, ensuring the utmost detail and accuracy in each final image.

01
Pixel Multi-Shift

My Sony camera's Pixel-Shift Multi-Shooting feature is a cornerstone for achieving exceptional detail. This technique involves capturing 16 consecutive images, with the camera's sensor minutely shifting its position between each exposure. These individual frames are then meticulously combined using Sony's Imaging Edge Desktop software on a computer. The result is a single, extraordinarily high-resolution image, often exceeding 200 megapixels, perfect for revealing the finest textures and nuances in still subjects.

02
Focus Stacking

To overcome the inherently shallow depth of field in macro photography, I extensively use focus stacking. This process involves taking a series of images of the same subject, incrementally adjusting the focus point through the entire depth of the subject from front to back. Specialized software is then employed to analyze these multiple frames, selecting only the sharpest portions from each shot and seamlessly blending them. This creates a final composite image where the entire subject is rendered with remarkable sharpness and clarity.

03
Pure Editing

Every image undergoes a rigorous and detailed process I call Pure Editing, executed meticulously in Adobe Photoshop. This approach prioritizes traditional, manual techniques, deliberately avoiding over-reliance on automated plugins or quick filters. This hands-on Pure Editing philosophy allows for precise control over every aspect of the image, from intricate clean-up to nuanced adjustments in light and tone. It's a time-intensive but essential part of ensuring the final artwork meets my exacting standards for both accuracy and artistic vision.

04
Colour Management

Accurate colour reproduction is paramount from capture to final output. At the start of each photoshoot, I capture an image of a standardized colour checker chart under the specific lighting conditions. This allows me to create a custom camera profile, ensuring the colours recorded by the sensor are as true to life as possible. Furthermore, my monitors are regularly calibrated to professional standards, guaranteeing that the colours I see while editing are consistent and accurately reflect the intended final appearance of the artwork.

Captivating visuals that tell compelling stories and leave a lasting impression.

I'm looking for collaborations to make thought provoking imagery.

I am eager to collaborate with fellow artists and subject matter experts to create unique and impactful art. If you appreciate my work and practices, and have a project, idea, or specialized knowledge, perhaps in areas like science, conservation, research, or any field that could lend depth and accuracy. I believe we could create something truly powerful together. Please reach out. I am passionate about meeting new people and working on meaningful art that, informed by expertise and authentic storytelling, promotes positive change and connection.
